Here’s an easy no brainer breakfast that can make you look like a superstar in the kitchen for either breakfast or brunch. The key to this french toast is to let the loaf sit out the night before or buy day old bread at the grocery store. You need that stiff or stale bread to soak up the egg mixture without having the bread get soggy and fall apart on you. Trust me on this one. When you make this french toast you won’t taste stale bread, its almost like the egg mixture brings it back to life. It’ll come out perfectly cooked.
Surprise your wife, mom, or significant other with this easy breakfast in bed. Or if you’re me just make it on a random morning because you are an adult and you can do what you want and no one is going to tell me what to do!!!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Wide loaf of bread (sourdough or french), preferably day old bread or let it sit out on the counter the night before
3 large organic eggs
splash of organic milk (about 2-3 tablespoons)
1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
pinch of salt
powdered sugar for dusting
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
Cut bread loaf into thick slices. In a shallow bowl beat eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and pinch of salt. Soak both sides of sliced bread for a minute on each side in the egg mixture.
In a large skillet on medium high heat melt a tab of butter. Gently fry both sides of the bread until golden brown. Remove from heat and sprinkle both sides of the toast with the cinnamon sugar mixture and lightly top it with powdered sugar.
Serve with your choice of breakfast sides or bake a message in bacon seen in one of my previous posts here. (Click picture to take you to that post)
